Your attic needs to breathe, just like you do! And today's homes are far more air tight with energy efficient doors and windows as well as increased insulation which means your home has a harder time breathing in and out - this is where roof ventilation comes in.

3 Things Your Roof Ventilation Does

One of the things we tell our homeowners is key to a high-performing roof is roof ventilation.  There are three things roof vents do to help with the flow of indoor and outdoor air.

  1. Increases energy efficiency. Insurances love this, but so does your heating and cooling bills.
  2. Reduces moisture in the attic. With the humid months of summer, moisture is evident in the attic. Roof vents help the air flow constantly move in and out of your home.
  3. Prolongs the life of your roof. It helps prevent those black streaks, mold, and rotting. (See what Jimmy Fallon has to say about it)

Avoid Moisture by Using the Right Roof Ventilation.

The humid, moist air in your home will naturally rise and stand still in your attic.  Roof vents allow the air to escape to the outside preventing it from forming condensation inside.  Because of this it will lower ugly humidity in your home, prevent damage to your roof, lower the risk of mold, and lower heating and cooling costs (HVAC). If left alone, the heat and moisture under the roof or in your attic can cause buckling and peeling which lead to leaks in your roof.

Remember, the most important defense against the deterioration of both your home and your roof is a properly designed and installed ventilation system! It's said that nine out of ten homes in the United States aren't ventilated correctly; with the Roofing by Design team, your home can be the one out of ten that is!
