In Tennessee, the time you think you have for those home and business repairs are becoming shorter and shorter in the winter months. The seasons of side blowing rain and howling wind, or large hail and thunderstorms cracking the windows, take a toll on our home’s exterior.
January and February look to be a cold and snowy one in Middle Tennessee. Here are a few things to look for before the first freeze and snow come our way.
- Look at the roof lines for any sagging or damaged shingles. If you see areas that look questionable, this may be an indication that there may be damage to the roof deck underneath the shingles.
- Look at the flashing, the metal material used in the transition areas of the roof and the wall meeting. Leaks in this area can cause damage to drywall, ceilings, and interior walls, if left alone.
- After you have cleaned your gutters from the fall leaves, check your gutters to make sure they are still properly fastened to the fascia. It is important to have your gutter clean before freezing temperatures set in. Water that sits for a long period of time, especially with shingles, is likely to create leaks or ice damming.
